News From Thurlton Parish Council

Parishioners from Thurlton may have noticed that there was no separate Parish Newsletter insert in the last Rav Mag. The Parish Council took the decision to stop the insert because of the cost involved in its printing and photocopying and the time involved in folding and inserting it and so from now on we will have our own page in the Rav Mag. Apologies for not giving any earlier notice about this.

Although many of you will know already it is with great sadness that we have to tell you of the sudden death of Chris Cook, our much loved and respected Parish Clerk for over 22 years. Chris was very much “Mr.Thurlton” because in addition to his clerk role he had been actively involved in the Allotment Association, The Horticultural Club, The Bowls Club, The Village Hall, The Community Shop and countless working parties and litter picks. His funeral took place in early July and it was standing room only at the service, an indication of his popularity. The service naturally included a selection of his awful jokes and we left the service, at the request of Chris, to the strains of “Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life”.

We are pleased to announce that Gill Crossland has been appointed as our new Parish Clerk. Her contact details are :-

address: 11 Hampton Avenue, NR14 6RH
email: [email protected]
telephone: 07795 102946

The contact details for all the Parish, District and County Councillors and the Parish Clerk can be found on the parish notice board opposite the village shop.

After the recent elections we received many complaints from parishioners that they had to go to Haddiscoe to vote as Norton Chapel was no longer in our ward. We are pleased to tell you that South Norfolk Council is undertaking a review of polling stations and is recommending that the Village Hall is used in future. We will keep you posted on this development.

Can we remind everyone who has a hedge that borders on to a pavement to keep it cut so that those with pushchairs or those on mobility scooters are not forced in to the road. If your hedge borders on to a road then this should also be kept trimmed.

And finally…dog poo…well it wouldn’t be a newsletter without this topic. We recently arranged to clear the footpath that runs behind the school from Low Road to Church Road. The contractor reported that there was a large amount of dog poo on the path. Dog poo is a major health hazard especially for young children which makes the fouling of this footpath even more disturbing. Please make sure that you dispose of dog poo responsibly.
